Event Project Manager (Contract)

Job description

Planning a great hackathon is hard. Developers are extremely selective about the events they decide to attend and, unless you can speak their language, your hackathon won’t make the cut. But it’s possible to plan a hackathon that wins the hearts and minds of developers, even if you aren't one.

That’s where Major League Hacking (MLH) comes in. We help organize hundreds of the world's best hackathons every year and have a community of nearly 135,000 technologists globally who love our events. We partner with brands and use our expertise to help them host events (like hackathons) that developers love.

But we can't do it alone. We're currently looking for a contract Event Project Manager to help us bring these world-class hackathons to life (hopefully you!). As the Event Project Manager at MLH, you'll be responsible for bringing our parter brands' vision to life by planning hackathons that resonates with developers and meets the high quality bar that MLH is known for.

Specifically, you'll be responsible for:

  • Project Management. You'll play air traffic control before, during, and after the event by maintaining the project plan, coordinating with stakeholders, and overseeing the budget.
  • Logistics. You'll make sure that all the pieces come together for the day-of the hackathon. This includes everything from arranging the venue to booking catering to hiring event staff.
  • On-site Support. You'll be on the ground at the event making sure we stick to your run of show and that your vision comes to life.

As someone who plans hackathons, you already know the life-changing power of these events. As the Event Project Manager for MLH, you'll have a front-row seat to those magical moments and the satisfaction of knowing that you played a critical role in making it all happen!

To qualify for this role, you must have experience:

  • Experience organizing high-quality hackathons.
  • Experience contracting or consulting with corporate clients.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel and occasionally work weekends (our hackathons primarily occur on weekends).
  • You’re passionate about technical education and communities.
